Alopecia areata is a condition where you suddenly develop small- to large-sized bald patches over your scalp, beard, or even your eyebrows.

This is an autoimmune condition which may in some cases resolve on its own, but in others may spread to involve larger areas of your scalp with newer and larger patches.
